FAQ

What is this event about?

TransTrad is a music festival celebrating trans and gender-diverse people in traditional music! There will be concerts, workshops, dancing, and more.

What kind of music will be featured at TransTrad?

This festival is specifically geared towards traditional folk music of all kinds. Expect Irish, Scottish, and Scandinavian fiddle tunes, bluegrass bands, old-time stringband music, sea shanties, and other such styles of music.

Will there be space for jamming?

YES. A thousand times yes. Bring your instruments!

I’m not queer or trans, am I still welcome at this event?

Absolutely! This festival is meant to raise up trans artists, not to put anyone else down. We’d love to have you show up, sing along, dance, and jam! TransTrad is a trans- and queer-normative space, and we expect attendees to follow our code of conduct.

What kind of dancing will there be?

There will be a square dance on Friday night and a contra dance on Saturday night!

I want to attend, but I can’t afford to come! What should I do?

Accessibility is a big deal for us organizers. You can get free admission by doing some volunteer work for the festival; if that’s an issue, please reach out and we can work something out.

Where and when will this festival take place?

June 6-8 in Olympia, WA.
